From the first uniformed youth organisational company that was founded in Glasgow on 4th October 1883 by Sir William Alexander Smith (shown right), The BB has sprung all the other major youth organisations for boys and girls including ‘The Scout Association’, ‘The Guide Association’ and ‘The Girls' Brigade’.
The Boys’ Brigade are committed to seeing lives enriched by supporting children and young people to reach their full potential by providing opportunities to meet together and engage in a range of fun and developmental activities and experiences. The Boys’ Brigade is one of the biggest Christian Youth Organisations in the UK & Republic of Ireland.
‘The advancement of Christ's Kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian Manliness.’
The BB engages with over 50,000 children and young people providing opportunities to meet together in their communities and engage in a range of fun and developmental activities. The BB believes that empowering children and young people is important and do this by involving them in decision making at all levels of the BB and giving responsibility appropriate to their age and aptitude.
The BB enables children and young people to engage with the needs of others (especially young people) locally, nationally, globally & encouraging them to participate in activities that can make a difference.
The Boys’ Brigade Motto is: ‘Sure and Steadfast. The motto is taken from the bible, the book of Hebrews,
Chapter 6, Verse 19.
The BB Celebrated it's 130 year old Birthday on 4th October 2013 and has partnered local churches to work with children and young people, sharing the gospel & encouraging the development of a personal Christian faith. Today there is over 1400 churches working together.
The BB is dependent on over 13,000 volunteer leaders who come to share their time, skills, passion and faith. Many of our leaders come from within the Church family of which the Company is a part and see the work within BB as a practical expression of their Christian witness.
Volunteers work across a variety of different roles within each Company, most directly supporting children and young people, with others working behind the scenes.
